Cornwall » Tintagel accommodation
The name of Tintagel immediately conjures images
of King Arthur and the legends associated with him. The
blackened ruins of Tintagel Castle brood over the coast,
but no-one can say for sure whether this was really the home of Uther
Pendragon. The ruined Norman castle is much more recent than the
times of the legend.
On the headland are the earlier ruins of a Celtic Monastery. In the town itself, the Old Post Office is originally a fourteenth century building, recently restored. The best thing about Tintagel is probably the glorious coastal scenery.
A few miles along the coast is Boscastle, once a favourite haunt of author, Thomas Hardy, and the setting for one of his novels, A Pair of Blue Eyes. It is a tiny port set in a narrow ravine and boasts some very attractive thatches and white-washed cottages.
